13-year-old dies in Volusia County side-by-side crash, troopers say

A 13-year-old girl riding in a side-by-side died after the vehicle overturned in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened at Rasley Road and Brasher Road around 3:29 p.m.

According to a crash report, a Yamaha Rhino 660 two-seater side-by-side – being driven by a 13-year-old New Smyrna Beach girl – was traveling west on Rasley Road, west of Brash Road.

Troopers said the driver of the vehicle, which had three additional passengers, lost control and ran off of the road and overturned.

According to the report, all occupants were thrown from the vehicle.

A 13-year-old girl from Edgewater was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and two passengers, ages 13 and 14, were not injured, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
