Ocala Police Department officers arrested a 17-year-old for driving under the influence and causing a crash that killed a married couple.
Officers charged Frank Scudder IV, 17, of Ocala, on Tuesday with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide for the death of Spencer and Samantha Holden on Feb. 20.
Investigators say Scudder crashed into the couple’s car around 8:30 p.m. on Southeast 38th Avenue. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the victim’s car was engulfed in flames. Scudder was driving more than 120 mph moments before the deadly crash.
Scudder was seriously injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. A blood test showed his blood alcohol level at 0.188, more than double the legal limit.
“The Ocala Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends affected by this tragedy,” the police department stated. “DUI-related crashes have severe consequences on our community. We take these cases seriously and are committed to bringing justice to the victims and their loved ones. We urge everyone to make responsible choices behind the wheel and never drink and drive.”
