2 crashes on I-75 cause northbound delays

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say two crashes Wednesday afternoon are causing delays on the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 towards Lake City.

According to FHP Lieutenant Patrick Riordan, around 12:30 p.m. a truck pulling a trailer filled with various home goods caught fire after the driver noticed a flat tire near the 385-mile marker. The right and middle lanes were blocked off for about half an hour and multiple wrecker tow trucks were dispatched to retrieve the vehicle and the trailer.

There were two children in the car but no injuries were reported. The driver was a man from San Antonio, Florida.

According to Riordan, the vehicle, the trailer and the goods inside were all burned. Alachua County Fire Rescue responded to the incident. At 3:22 p.m., all lanes were reopened.

Troopers also said that around 1:30 p.m. a blue Kia and a black Chevy pickup truck collided near the 383-mile marker. Law enforcement said the proximity of the crashes in location and time caused delays on the interstate.
