Two people are dead following a multi-vehicle accident near Boynton Beach.
According to a report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday night, a Lexus RX350 was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on South Military Trail and approaching the intersection of Miner Road.
In an attempt to beat a red-light signal, the Lexus crashed into the rear end of a Volkswagen Jetta.
Two passengers in the Jetta were killed, a 2-year-old sustained serious injuries, while the driver of the Jetta, a 46-year-old man sustained critical injuries and was taken to a hospital. According to the report, the driver of the Jetta sustained “internal decapitation” and is not expected to survive.
The driver of the Lexus sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in Delray Beach.
According to a document from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the operator of the Lexus, Dawn M. Howard, was arrested Thursday at the hospital for another incident.
The report notes Howard attempted to go to the restroom but was denied at first because she was the subject of a criminal investigation of the crash. Howard was told she would be able to go to the restroom once a female deputy was present with her in the restroom.
When Howard attempted to move around the deputy, the deputy mirrored her movements so she could not leave the room.
According to the report, Howard became upset and struck the deputy in the wrist. Howard was then arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer.
