2 women ‘intentionally targeted,’ shot in Haines City, suspect at large: police

Two women, who police said were “intentionally targeted,” were shot while driving a vehicle in Haines City on Friday evening.

According to the Haines City Police Department, the two victims were traveling together in a vehicle when they were shot from behind.

One woman, only described as a 33-year-old black woman, died from her injuries, while a 41-year-old black woman is in stable condition and expected to survive.

While officials said their vehicle was targeted, there is currently no suspect in custody.

Police released a photo of the suspect vehicle, along with surveillance footage over the weekend. The vehicle appears to be a dark colored, four-door sedan.

“Our hearts are with family of the victims during this difficult time,” Police Chief G G said. “We are committed to identifying those who are involved and ensuring justice is served for their loved ones. In moments like these, it is vital we come together as a community, offering support and standing united against senseless acts of violence. We encourage any members of our community who may have any information to come forward and assist in the investigation, as every detail can make a difference in bringing justice to the family.”

Police believe this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have information about this incident to contact Heartland Crime Stoppers (eligible for a $5,000 cash reward) or the Haines City Police Department.
