21-year-old woman, infant, and dog killed in head-on collision with SUV trying to pass vehicle

A woman, an infant, and a dog were killed in a fatal car accident near the Ocala National Forest on July 4 after their van was was struck head-on by a sport utility vehicle that crossed into oncoming traffic while attempting to pass another vehicle.

The fatal car accident took place just before midnight on Thursday, July 4 along State road 19 in Putnam County, about a mile north of the Marion County line.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the 21-year-old woman, who was from Hastings, was driving a van northbound on State Road 19, along the Ocala National Forest.

At around 11:44 p.m., a 60-year-old man from Mastic City, New York who was driving an SUV southbound on SR 19 attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.

According to witnesses, the SUV entered the northbound lane, where the left front of the SUV made contact with the left front of the van.

After the collision, the SUV overturned and came to final rest on the road. The driver and his passenger, a 62-year-old woman, were both seriously injured in the accident.

The van came to final rest on the east shoulder of the roadway.

The woman, the baby, and a dog were all killed in the accident.

According to FHP, all of the individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident and the baby was properly restrained.

The accident is still under investigation and no further details have been provided.
