A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the March 5 homicide of 21-year-old M J, authorities confirmed Friday.
Investigators said 20-year-old J J was taken into custody through a collaborative effort involving the Hallandale Beach Police Department, the U.S. Marshals, and the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
J’ arrest follows the earlier apprehension of O S, 21, who is accused of fatally shooting Johnson during an argument at a Hollywood house party.
Police allege that S shot J after a dispute over reportedly stolen items escalated.
Surveillance footage captured J being thrown from a vehicle along Pembroke Road before the car crashed into a tree, with two individuals fleeing the scene, according to police.
A male witness told police he approached the victim and checked on her after she fell hard. He then began directing traffic to protect her and later learned from other witnesses that J had been thrown from the Acura MDX Simpson was driving, according to police.
Investigators said J, who would have turned 22 two days after the incident, was rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest.
Local 10 News spoke with M J, the victim’s sister, just two days after the incident occurred.
“She was just innocent,” said J. “Her life was taken away at the age of 21.”
Jail records show J is facing one count each of premeditated first-degree murder and will be extradited to the Broward County Main Jail to face legal proceedings.
S is also facing a premeditated murder charge in connection with the incident and is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail as of Friday.
Police said they will “continue to investigate the case will work diligently to bring justice for the victim and her family.”
