3 people dead after being pulled from Caloosahatchee River near Franklin Lock in Alva

Three people died after being pulled from the Caloosahatchee River near the Franklin Lock in Alva, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies, fire crews and marine units responded to a call around 1 p.m. about multiple people in the water near the W.P. Franklin recreation area.

According to LCSO, crews performed life-saving measures but all three people died.

Investigators said foul play is not suspected. It appears none of them knew how to swim, according to LCSO.

LCSO states he medical examiner is working to identify the decedents using facial recognition and fingerprints. Their identities have not been confirmed yet. They are speaking with presumptive family members.

The park will remain closed while LCSO’s investigation continues.
