A third camper who was aboard a sailboat that was struck by a barge in Biscayne Bay died Sunday, officials said.
NBC affiliate WTVJ reported that the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed the 10-year-old girl was at Jackson Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family, when she died.
Former Bal Harbour Mayor Gabriel Groisman confirmed the death of his cousin, 10-year-old AB, in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
This marks the third death resulting from a crash involving six people, five girls and a 19-year-old, who were aboard a sailboat when it was struck by the barge near Miami on July 28.
Two other girls,13-year-old EVK and 7-year-old MY, the granddaughter of Argentine TV producers, were also killed in the boating crash.
They were in the final week of a sailing camp held for children ages 7 to 15.
The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office told reporters that the cause of both girls’ deaths was determined to be accidental drowning.
According to WTVJ, another 8-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition, but her current status is unknown.
The 19-year-old woman and a 12-year-old were also rescued but were uninjured.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
