A 4-year-old was shot in Middleburg Wednesday, according to a press release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. CCSO says the child was able to get a parent’s gun and accidentally fired the gun.
Police were called to a home in the 2400 block of Clover Avenue in Middleburg at 12:19 p.m. They were told the 4-year-old had been shot.
Paramedics were on scene treating the child, who was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Police say the injuries were not life-threatening.
Police say no one else was injured and there have been no arrests.
CCSO is investigating how the gun was stored and who was home at the time. The Florida Department of Children and Families and State Attorney’s Office are assisting.
