The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a 50-year-old man has been killed after a traffic crash on Atlantic Boulevard Thursday.
The crash occurred at 7000 Atlantic Blvd. around 6:30 p.m., police said. The man, heading eastbound in an SUV, drifted off the roadway onto the sidewalk, then hit a electric pole before striking the sign of a fast food restaurant, Sgt. Rob Hungerford told reporters. The victim was taken to a local hospital and he later died.
He said JSO is investigating a possible medical episode and it does not appear the victim, the vehicle’s only occupant, was impaired.
It is Jacksonville’s 70th fatal crash of the year, Hungerford said.
