A tragic crash in Jupiter resulted in the deaths of a 77-year-old grandmother and her 16-year-old granddaughter when their car collided with another vehicle after it reportedly ran a stop sign.
According to a report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), the crash happened at 4:38 p.m. at the intersection of Randolph Siding Road and Alexander Run on Saturday.
A Ford Escape, carrying the family members, was traveling west on Randolph Siding Road when the driver reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection.
PBSO said that, meanwhile, another vehicle was approaching from the north on Alexander Run.
Unfortunately, the Ford Escape did not yield the right of way and collided with the other car, striking the driver’s side of the Ford, per the report.
Officials reported that the impact caused the Ford Escape to spin and veer off the road, where it struck a tree and came to a halt. The other vehicle continued moving in a northwestern direction before the driver managed to regain control and bring it to a stop in the northbound lane.
Tragically, the driver of the Ford Escape, identified as DN, 77, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the Ford Escape, identified as JN, 16, was taken to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving, around 6 p.m.
Authorities said that next of kin have been notified.
