A Leesburg man was arrested for driving with a suspended license despite switching seats with a passenger after a traffic crash.
A deputy responded to a traffic crash at U.S. Hwy. 441 an Morse Boulevard, Lady Lake, around 12:15 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Three separate witnesses advised that they saw 63-year-old JEJ driving the vehicle in question, but he and the passenger switched places.
The deputy spoke to Jenkins who admitted to driving the vehicle due to the passenger having migraines. He handed over his ID and advised that his license was suspended for failure to pay criminal traffic obligations. A computer check revealed he had an active cancellation from Nov. 24, 2009, the report said.
Due to being involved in a traffic crash, he was taken to UF Health Emergency Room Clinic at Brownwood in The Villages before being arrested. He was then charged with driving while license suspended/revoked (third or subsequent violation) and transported to the Sumter County Detention Center. The Ohio native was released after posting $3,000 bond.
