An early morning crash has led to the death of one person and significant delays on the eastbound side of the Hathaway Bridge on Tuesday.
The driver has yet to be identified and the cause of the crash is still under investigation. The incident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. and caused traffic that stretched from the flyover of the eastbound lane heading into the city all the way to Moylan Road along Back Beach Road.
All eastbound traffic was diverted to the Port Panama City exit while emergency crews worked on scene.
After roughly three hours the lanes accessing Highway 98 and 15th Street reopened. The eastbound lanes to 23rd Street were just reopened to motorists as well. If you are driving in that direction continue to exercise caution as emergency crews may still be working in that area.
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – Eastbound traffic over the Hathaway bridge can now access the Highway 98 exit in addition to the Port Panama City exit.
Officials said the 23rd street exit ramp is still closed to traffic at this time.
