A Leesburg man was arrested after allegedly swinging a tire iron at his son and another man at a family gathering.
Dispatch received a call for service advising they needed law enforcement around 6:05 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Screaming was heard in the background with no other information.
A deputy later responded to an undisclosed Leesburg residence and met 52-year-old L R V who was being tended to by EMS for superficial cuts on his elbows and hands. He advised that he was hit and kicked by a group of people at his residence. He stated the victim beat him up but could not go into specifics other than he was kicked and hit while on the ground, the report said.
The report noted the family members present advised they were all drinking, including V.
The victim stated V got out of his truck with a metal rod, a 2-foot tire iron, and “locked eyes” with him. He swung at the victim with the tire iron, but the victim was able to put a chair in between and block the tire iron from striking him. While V tried hitting him another person on scene “bull dogged” him to the ground, the report said.
The deputy later spoke to V’s son who advised that his father pulled up to the house with a metal pipe and started swinging at him and the victim. He tried to take the pipe away from his father but was struck by it on his left hand. V also struck his son with his fist, causing a significant amount of swelling and bruising to his right eye, the report said.
All parties refused to submit a sworn affidavit and wished not to prosecute. Due to V being the father of one of the victims, the case would be considered domestic, the report said.
V was arrested on charges of aggravated battery (domestic) and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $10,000.
