A bicyclist was reportedly struck and killed by a car Sunday morning while trying to cross US-41 in Hillsborough County.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8 at the intersection of US-41 and Park Grove Road, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the 31-year-old bicyclist from Riverview entered the path of Dodge Charger while riding across the highway.

The driver, a 25-year-old Gibsonton man, tried to stop, but ultimately ended up hitting the bicyclist, officials reported.

The Dodge Charger then left the roadway and struck both a traffic sign and a tree before finally coming to a stop.
