A Cape Coral man was arrested on Thursday after being accused of crashing into multiple parked vehicles while driving under the influence with a child in the car.
The Cape Coral Police Department said SPD, 30, is facing multiple charges, including child neglect, following his arrest.
Police said they received reports from witnesses who said a red Jeep had struck several parked cars.
Witnesses told officers that D appeared to be impaired, and they saw a young child in the passenger seat with no seat belt and visibly injured.
When police arrived at the scene, officers said they saw signs on impairment from D, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol.
CCPD said the child sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Officers said investigations revealed that the child had not been properly secured in the vehicle.
D was arrested for DUI after police conducted a series of sobriety tests. According to the press release, D had a blood alcohol content of 0.223.
D was taken to the Lee County Jail where he faces the following charges:
- One count of DUI 0.15 or higher
- One count of DUI with a person under 18 years of age
- Four counts of DUI property damage
- One count of DUI personal injury
- One count of child neglect
