A 28-year-old woman from Ocala was injured on Thursday morning after her vehicle rear-ended a Marion County school bus that was carrying 50 students.
At around 9 a.m., the school bus was traveling eastbound on County Road 326, just east of the County Road 225A intersection, when it began slowing down for a nearby bus stop, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP stated that at the same time, the Ocala woman was also heading eastbound on County Road 326, behind the school bus, in a 2012 Mercedes sedan. As the school bus slowed, the woman was unable to react in time, and the front of her vehicle proceeded to strike the rear of the school bus.
The sedan’s driver sustained minor injuries in the crash. The driver of the school bus, a 59-year-old Reddick man, was not injured.
Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene of the crash and evaluated the occupants of both vehicles. A trooper noted in the report that there were “minor complaints of injuries,” though no one was transported to the hospital.
No further details were provided by FHP regarding any injuries sustained by the students who were on board the school bus at the time of the accident.
The sedan’s driver was issued a traffic citation for careless driving.
The names of the drivers involved in the crash were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
