One man has died, and another is in custody following a shooting in a Florida middle school parking lot, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said the shooting happened near North Marion Middle School in Citra shortly before 7 p.m.  The suspect, 34-year-old Roderick Kelvin Watson Jr., was arrested and charged with second degree murder with a firearm and is being held with no bond, according to deputies.  The victim was identified as 32-year-old Joseph James Juarez Coles. 

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car while trying to cross a street on Thursday morning, according to police. The Tampa Police Department responded to the crash on Nebraska Avenue just after 5:30 a.m. Officials said a man in his late 20s was trying to cross North Nebraska Avenue, just south of East Bougainvillea Avenue, outside of a crosswalk. A 31-year-old Milton woman was killed in a crash on I-10 in Santa Rosa County Wednesday evening. It happened around 5:45 p.m. near mile marker 29. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was traveling westbound on I-10 in an SUV when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned. She was pronounced dead on scene. A fatal crash has been reported on I-95 northbound in Fort Lauderdale and it’s causing road closures. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:04 a.m. and center lanes on I-95 are blocked. A Panama City man is facing child sex charges. Panama City Police said 41-year-old, Heman Mathis inappropriately touched a 13-year-old girl. According to the Panama City Police Department, officers began investigating after the victim’s mother allegedly found multiple text messages between her daughter and Mathis.
