The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) has confirmed that a motorcyclist died Saturday evening in a crash on East University Avenue. GPD spokesperson Brandon Hatzel said officers responded to a motorcycle-truck collision around 11:45 p.m. in the 1800 block of East University. The truck was crossing traffic in a northbound direction when it was struck by the motorcycle, which was traveling east on University. A 26-year-old Okeechobee man died after diverting from the roadway and crashing, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Early Saturday morning just after 5 a.m., the man was heading south on County Road 721, just south of State Road 70 at a high rate of speed.
