A 78-year-old man was seriously injured in a chain reaction pedestrian crash on W Highway 4 in Escambia County Wednesday morning.

It happened around 6:45 a.m.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the 78-year-old Century man was traveling on W Highway 4 in his pickup truck pulling a trailer when he pulled over to side of the road to check a tire. His vehicle was still partially in the roadway as he got out to inspect his tire.

A black Dodge Charger driven by a 63-year-old Century woman then stopped in the roadway approximately five feet from the stopped pickup truck and trailer.

FHP says a red SUV driven by a 16-year-old Century boy failed to react in time and collided with the rear of the Dodge Charger.

The collision pushed the Dodge Charger to the eastbound shoulder, where it stuck the 78-year-old man. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

No further details have been released.
