A deadly crash in Volusia County caused major delays on Interstate 95 Monday.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 38-year-old woman and a 2-year-old girl died in the crash.
According to FHP, one vehicle was in the inside lane, and two were in the center lane. The driver of the vehicle in the outside lane lost control of their car and ran off the roadway onto the inside shoulder. When the driver overcorrected back to the right, the vehicle began to rotate.
That is when FHP says impact with another vehicle occurred and started a series of other collisions between the three cars.
The 38-year-old driver of one vehicle was pronounced dead on-scene, and the 2-year-old passenger in that same car was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
Three other people were hospitalized with serious and minor injuries.
The crash, which occurred right before 4 p.m. just south of US-1, shut down all the northbound lanes in Ormond Beach. The hours-long closure caused a backup that stretches for a little under 10 miles.
The road began to reopen around 8 p.m.
A traffic camera at mile marker 272 showed major damage and a large emergency response right after the accident.
