A dirt bike rider was killed in a crash in Boca Raton, promoting a police investigation on Tuesday evening.
The Boca Raton Police Department (BRPD) said its Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash that occurred at the intersection of NW 20th Street and NW 5th Avenue, shortly after 6 p.m.
According to investigators, a Suzuki dirt bike, which had no headlights, was traveling westbound on NW 20th Street alongside two other dirt bikes. While a 2017 Volvo S60, traveling eastbound on the same street, attempted a left turn to head north on NW 5th Avenue.
Unfortunately, the Suzuki dirt bike collided with the front bumper of the Volvo, ejecting the rider, according to the crash report. The dirt bike then veered and struck a 2014 Honda Civic that was stopped at a red light in the southbound lane of NW 5th Avenue. The riders of the two other dirt bikes left the scene before police arrived, police said.
The rider of the Suzuki dirt bike, identified as 23-year-old T W of Boca Raton, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The drivers of the Volvo and Honda, identified as a 35-year-old from Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and a 57-year-old man from Delray Beach were not injured.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator David Williams at (561) 982-4052.
