Deputies seek help to find SUV in hit-and-run that injured Jensen Beach teen

Martin County sheriff’s deputies are asking for the public’s help in identifying a vehicle they said was involved in a hit-and-run crash of a teenager.

The 15-year-old boy was riding his bicycle near the Cumberland Farms on N.E. Savannah Road in Jensen Beach Wednesday night.

According to the sheriff’s office, the vehicle of interest was captured on surveillance footage, which appears to be a silver SUV, possibly a Hyundai Santa Fe or similar.

The driver is described as a white male, with glasses and a beard on the night of the crash, deputies said.

The teen was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach with injuries.

His mother told CBS12 News her son, Lochlan, was just released from the hospital and is expected to be okay. The Jensen Beach High School student suffered multiple injuries, including severe lacerations.

“The last thing he saw was headlights coming at him,” Lara Nicol, the victim’s mother, told CBS12 News.

Hit-and-run crashes are becoming more and more common in Florida.

The state tracked more than 104,000 hit-and-run reported crashes in 2023.

“We get a lot of hit-and-run crashes and that’s generally because of one or two things, they don’t have their driver’s license, so they don’t have the proper paperwork. Another reason why they leave is because they’re intoxicated,” explained Deputy Chief John Budenseik with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. “And because this individual left, we’re going to track them down and make an arrest. It will be a felony arrest for leaving the scene of an accident with damage to the individual.”

If you have any information about this crash, you are asked to call Deputy Sheriff Erick Day at 772-220-7144.

“He’s got glasses and some facial hair. Middle-aged man, they’re looking for anything that matches that description,” Budenseik said.
