A driver was arrested for driving under the influence early Friday morning after police said they crashed into a construction vehicle on the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

According to the Clearwater Police Department, at around 2:43 a.m., Andra Newkirk, 37, crashed into the rear of a stopped road work vehicle that had its emergency lights on.

Police said one worker employed as a subcontractor with the Department of Transportation was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Newkirk was charged with DUI with property damage and booked into the Pinellas County Jail after being medically cleared at a hospital.

Westbound lanes on the Courtney Campbell Causeway were temporarily closed while the investigation took place.
