Driver from Palm Coast killed in crash during police chase in St. Johns County

A driver was killed in a police pursuit in St. Johns County at 5:20 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a St. Johns County deputy was pursuing a 36-year-old from Palm Coast, who was driving an SUV.

The SUV hit spike strips at U.S. 1 and Shores Boulevard, then hit a pickup and overturned several times.

The driver was ejected from the SUV and died at the scene.

FHP says the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the pickup he hit had minor injuries.
