Driver killed, 2 seriously hurt in New Smyrna Beach crash

A crash in New Smyrna Beach on Sunday morning ended with the death of a driver, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Hyundai then veered into the eastbound lane and the path of an oncoming SUV, the release shows. As a result, the two vehicles collided head-on.

Troopers announced that the Hyundai driver — a 67-year-old New Smyrna Beach man — was taken tot he hospital, where he died.

Meanwhile, the 77-year-old SUV driver and his 79-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, troopers added.

The release said that the crash caused a roadblock for both lanes on Josephine Street, from Old Mission Road to James Street. As of 2:30 p.m., the roadblock was cleared.

This crash remains under investigation. No additional information has been provided.
