Fatal crash under investigation on Edwards Road near South 23rd Street

A man died Monday after a head-on traffic crash on Edwards Road near South 23rd Street, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Keith Pearson.

The crash, which left Olan Hayse McCroan 72, of Fort Pierce, dead happened shortly before 9 a.m.

McCroan’s vehicle was traveling west on Edwards Road when it appeared to have drifted into the eastbound lanes where it collided in a head-on manner with a vehicle driven by a 62-year-old man, whose injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Pearson said investigators are working with the medical examiner’s office as part of determining whether a medical episode could have occurred prior to the crash.
