Father arrested for involvement in Bradenton hit-and-run, police say

The father of a suspect still on the run after hitting a pedestrian was arrested, the Bradenton Police Department announced.

JT was speeding northbound on 15th Street West on Saturday around 11:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, struck a pole, and then hit and killed 26-year-old Clarence Brooks who was sleeping or sitting near the sidewalk, officers said.

Before officers arrived at the scene, JT exited his car and ran from the scene.

During the investigation, investigators obtained probable cause that JT, 59, knew his son had committed a crime and helped him avoid being arrested.

JT was charged with accessory after the fact, according to BPD.

The Bradenton Police Department and local, state, and federal partners are looking for JT, who is still on the run.

An arrest warrant was issued for J on Sunday, and he is charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, and driving with a suspended license, according to BPD.

The department is asking the community to call 941-932-9300 if they have any information on the case. You can also submit a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers and be eligible for a reward of $3,000.
