Troopers say the man traveled at a “high rate of speed” on the interstate in St. Johns County Tuesday night.
A Cincinnati man is recovering at HCA Orange Park Hospital Wednesday morning after being involved in a rear-end crash with a dump truck on Interstate 95 Tuesday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say the man who is 27 years old, is in critical condition.
FHP says at 11:50 p.m., on I-95 North south of mile marker 320, the man was in the center lane on the interstate, behind a “loaded dump truck.” The crash report states he was traveling at a “high rate of speed.”
As a result, the man’s vehicle, a sedan, became lodged underneath the dump truck, the report states.
FHP says the dump truck then dragged the man’s sedan to final rest, coming to a controlled stop on the east paved shoulder.
Furthermore, St. Johns County Fire Rescue said on Facebook that the crash caused flames. The fire department also said the man had to be airlifted to be taken to the hospital.
The FHP report does not note that the driver of the dump truck, a 33-year-old Jacksonville man, suffered any injuries.
“The traffic crash is under investigation,” the report states.
