A driver died Thursday morning after their car caught fire on the exit ramp to Bird Road from the northbound Palmetto Expressway in Miami-Dade County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP Lt. Alex Camacho said the incident occurred just before noon when a gray Toyota sedan, which was stopped on the ramp for unknown reasons, became engulfed in flames.
Authorities said the driver was unable to exit the vehicle and died at the scene. The driver’s age, gender and identity have not yet been determined.
Video from Sky 10 showed the burned vehicle against the ramp wall, with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units blocking a lane as investigators took photos.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
