Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers say they are investigating the cause of a fatal crash that took place in Marion County Wednesday morning.
Troopers say the victim, an 85-year-old woman from Marion, was traveling west on Southwest 73rd Street Road and was at a stop sign.
The other vehicle was traveling north in the middle lane of State Road 200, approaching the intersection.
The victim’s car attempted to make a left turn onto State Road 200 in the direct path of the other car.
The second vehicle hit the victim’s car as it attempted to make the turn.
Both drivers were transported to HCA Ocala Regional Medical Center.
The first driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. Troopers confirmed she had been wearing a seatbelt.
Cpl. W. Swartz is the lead homicide investigator on the case.
