An arrest was made Tuesday in a hit-and-run crash that ended in the death of a 22-year-old over a year ago in Orange Park.
Sorie Brown is facing vehicular homicide and other charges, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Jerry Stepp was on his way to pick up his very first paycheck for a paint job he completed at his new job on Feb. 6, 2023, his father, Jerol Stepp, told News4JAX in a previous interview.
Jerry was driving on Blanding Boulevard toward this intersection of Orange Park Northway right outside of the Orange Park Mall.
According to an FHP report, Brown drove an SUV through the light and hit Jerry’s car, causing him to lose control and flip several times. Jerry was ejected from the blue Chevrolet Tahoe.
FHP reported Jerry wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
Brown ran away from the scene after the incident.
Jerry died from his injuries three days after the crash.
Brown also faces a charge for leaving the scene and another for driving with a revoked license.
Brown is in the Clay County jail with a $750,000 bond.
