FHP: Motorcyclist dies following traffic crash near DeLand

Troopers say a motorcyclist died following a two-vehicle crash in Volusia County.

It happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Glenwood and Wilmhurst roads near DeLand.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved a Honda Accord and a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Investigators said the crash occurred when the Honda’s driver tried to make a lefthand turn from southbound Wilmhurst Road onto eastbound Glenwood Road.

Officials said she pulled out from a stop sign and into the direct path of the bike, which was traveling westbound, causing the motorcyclist to crash into the side of the car.

The motorcyclist was rushed to AdventHealth DeLand Hospital for treatment but did not survive.

FHP said he was a DeLand resident, age 33.

The driver of the Honda, 73, also of DeLand, suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
