Firefighter hurt battling house fire in Marion County

A firefighter was released from the hospital after being injured while battling a house fire in Ocala on Independence Day.

Marion County Fire Rescue crews say they were called to a fire at a home on North Highway 441, north of Ocala near Northwest 100th Street, around 8 p.m. on July 4.

When they arrived, flames were visible and a propane tank exploded. Firefighters quickly started dousing the flames to prevent another tank from bursting.

As firefighters entered the home, the conditions quickly deteriorated and Lt. Nicholas Ghigliotty was hurt. The exact cause of the injury remains under investigation.

Paramedics treated Ghigliotty on the scene before taking him to UF Health Shands in Gainesville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He was released from the about two hours later.

No one else was hurt in the blaze. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire and the firefighter’s injury.
