An image shared by Martin County Fire Rescue on Monday showed the results of a violent collision that left a truck stacked on top of another one.
Now, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office has released a picture from another perspective, that of the firefighters and the risks they took to save the people trapped in the two badly damaged vehicles.
“When I watched our fire personnel yesterday stabilizing a pickup truck that had crashed on top of another pickup truck, and realizing how dangerous that situation was, it made me proud to work alongside such professionals,” Sheriff William Snyder wrote on the MCSO Facebook page.
Snyder explained the photograph was snapped shortly after they freed a person from the smashed bottom truck. The image shows the firefighters beginning to secure the straps to stabilize the silver truck that lay on the lower truck’s bed and trailer.
What showed the firefighters bravery was they were doing that after they saved the individual. They did not hesitate to put that person’s well-being over their own.
“They disregarded their own safety to rescue someone in need,” Snyder added.
Two people were seriously injured in the crash, which happened around 3:30 p.m. on Monday along Dixie Highway, off Golf Trail, Fire Rescue said at the time. They were both airlifted to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, in Fort Pierce, because of the severity of their injuries.
