A head-on crash in Manatee County Saturday night left two people dead and three injured, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 on State Road 70 near Betts Road in Myakka City.
A pickup truck and a SUV were heading in opposite directions on the two-lane road.
The two vehicles collided when the driver of the SUV, a 31-year-old Bradenton man, entered the eastbound lane of State Road 70 to pass other westbound traffic, officials reported.
A 56-year-old Bradenton man who was a passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the driver of the pickup truck, a 47-year-old Arcadia man, also died from his injuries.
The driver of the SUV suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Troopers said two other passengers in the SUV, a 57-year-old Bradenton woman, and a 34-year-old Bradenton man, sustained minor injuries.
As of Sunday afternoon, the crash was still under investigation. No further information was immediately available.
