‘I thought I was going to die when he was choking me like that’: Man charged in barber shop murder case files for Stand Your Ground

In March of 2024, David Hull was arrested for the murder of Emmanuel Torres. Hull pleaded not guilty at the time, and is now filing for dismissal on the basis of the “stand your ground” law.

On March 20 police were dispatched to the Port Charlotte Barber shop after getting calls about shots fired in the area, One of the callers being Hull. Hull explained that he has been attacked, choked, and had his head smashed by Torres, and he was forced to shoot him.

The two had a verbal altercation turned violent and Torres began pinning Hull down and choking him. Hull told detectives he felt Torres put his whole body pressure on his neck. “All I remember is my head pressure feeling like its going to explode.”

Hull told detectives “I thought I was going to die when he was choking me like that, because, I mean, I’ve never felt anything like it.”
