Infant, 21-year-old woman killed in head-on crash when driver tries to pass on 2-lane highway: Florida Highway Patrol

A 21-year-old Hastings woman and an infant were killed Thursday night when their van was hit head-on by an SUV that was trying to pass another vehicle on State Road 19, a two-lane highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the SUV, driven by a 60-year-old man from Mastic City, New York, was headed south on SR 19 along the Ocala National Forest around 11:45 p.m. Thursday.

About 1 mile north of the Marion County line in Putnam County, the SUV tried to pass another vehicle, according to witnesses. When it entered the oncoming lane, the left front of the SUV slammed into the left front of the van.

The SUV flipped, and the driver and his 62-year-old female passenger were seriously injured, troopers said.

The woman and infant boy in the van were killed.

All the adults were wearing seat belts and the baby was in a proper child seat, according to the report.
