A child is in serious condition and a family is without a home after a fire ripped through a house on Jacksonville’s Westside Tuesday.
According to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, a child was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The fire was located in the 7300 block of Zain Michael Lane. The identities of the family have not been released, but neighbors say a family of four lived at the residence, including two little girls.
Raymond Garey, who lives next door, said he was inside when he saw the flames. He ran outside, grabbed his hose and tried to help.
“I saw the column there with fire and I took my hose and started putting water on it, but all of a sudden, something exploded inside and boom, the fire came out real fast,” Garey said.
The Red Cross was called to assist four people in total, two adults and two children.
The home is completely destroyed. An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
