Lake County man killed after crashing into dump truck in Orange County

A Lake County man was killed when his pickup ran into the back of a dump truck Friday morning in Orange County.

The 30-year-old Astatula man was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Jones Avenue west of Jewel Foliage Road at about 5:30 a.m. Friday, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol. At the same time, a 38-year-old Eustis man was at the wheel of a dump truck also traveling westbound on Jones Avenue west of Jewel Foliage Road ahead of the Silverado.

The driver of the Silverado was traveling above the posted speed limit and entered the eastbound lane to pass another vehicle. He re-entered the westbound lane but failed to stop for the dump truck slowing ahead. As a result, the front of the Silverado struck the rear of the dump truck.

The driver of the Silverado was transported to AdventHealth Apopka where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
