A Lake Wales resident shot an intruder on Tuesday night and then held him at gunpoint until the police arrived.
According to a news release by the Lake Wales Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:35 p.m.
Police were called to a home in the 700 block of South Scenic Highway in Polk County after the resident called to report the intrusion.
Upon arrival, LWPD said they found Cameron M, 34, with a gunshot wound in his leg.
The homeowner told LWPD that he had awoken to the sound of his dog barking and discovered M inside the home.
He told M to “freeze,” but the suspect ignored him and continued to walk toward him until he fired one time, hitting M the leg.
In their investigation, police said they discovered that the suspect had entered the home through a kitchen window.
After receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, M was arrested by police and booked into the Polk County Jail.
He has been charged with burglary to an occupied dwelling and theft.
According to LWPD, M was just released from state prison earlier this year.
