Leesburg man allegedly threatens girlfriend with baseball bat

A Leesburg man was arrested on battery and assault charges for several alleged attacks on his girlfriend, including threatening her with a baseball bat.

A deputy responded to a battery complaint at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 5:56 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies on scene had probable cause for the arrest of 39-year-old A W C.

A deputy who first responded to the incident around 4:21 p.m. was called to Walmart, located at 2501 Citrus Blvd., to meet with the female victim. She advised that there had been multiple physical altercations between her and C, her boyfriend, at the Leesburg residence. She has a child in common with him, too, the report said.

The victim did not remember all the instances or details, as there had been a significant amount. However, she advised that on Dec. 20, she and C got into a verbal dispute over their child. She was trying to leave when he threw a full Coca-Cola can at her, which struck her face and caused a physical altercation between the two of them, the report said.

Sometime during that incident, C started coming at her while holding a baseball bat, causing her to throw various items at him. She was able to leave the residence with the juvenile. The victim also reported an event on Dec. 24 wherein C struck her in the face and knocked her to the ground, the report said.

The victim went on to explain an event that occurred as she woke up Thursday when a verbal exchange began. C threw an unknown object at her while she was sitting on the couch with their child. As she prepared to leave the residence, she put the child in the car. When the victim returned to retrieve items, C grabbed her hair, dragged her in the door and threw a beer bottle at her, the report said.

The report noted the victim had two large bruises on the left side of her face, and the one on her cheekbone was slightly raised. She also had a scratch on her right cheek, which she believed was caused by C’s necklace, and bruises on her knees and arms, the report said.

Due to the victim’s injuries and statement, contact was made with Carter at the Leesburg residence. He was taken to Lake County Jail without incident. A search post arrest led to the discovery of a green leafy substance in his front right pocket, the report said.

Additionally, while leaving for jail, C believed his right hand was broken and stated the victim struck him with a baseball bat. The report noted he did not complain of any pain to the deputy prior to departing for jail, even while taking him into custody. Jail staff later advised that he needed to be medically cleared, and he was taken to AdventHealth Waterman, located at 1000 Waterman Wy.

The report noted that while at the hospital, the deputy saw C move his right hand several times without any issues, and he even slept with it stuck between his legs. He did not complain of pain unless a hospital staff member touched his right thumb. He also changed his story to the hospital staff, saying he was unsure of how he got the injury despite telling them he was struck with a bat. His hand was slightly swollen, but there were no marks or bruising.

C was ultimately charged with two counts of aggravated battery (domestic) and aggravated assault without intent to kill (domestic). He was transported to jail with bond set at $15,000.
