Leesburg woman dies after fatal collision in Groveland

A Leesburg woman was pronounced dead Monday following a fatal collision in Groveland, leaving the other driver hospitalized with injuries.

The 36-year-old driver of a 2008 Chevrolet HHR was traveling southbound on County Road 33 approaching Soto Road at 12:13 p.m., according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol. The other involved driver, a 43-year-old woman from Mascotte, was traveling northbound on County Road 33 approaching Soto Road in a 2015 Ford Fusion.

The Leesburg woman failed to maintain her lane and came into the direct path of the Ford Fusion. As a result, the front left of the Chevrolet collided with the front left of the Ford Fusion, the release said.

The Leesburg woman was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. The Mascotte woman was taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation, the release said.
