Lee County deputies arrested a Lehigh Acres woman who is charged with the killing of her baby.
JC, 32, is facing a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child and a charge aggravated child abuse after she was arrested on Friday in connection to the death of her baby.
The arrest report states the baby girl was just four-months-old at the time of her death.
According to the report, C did not receive prenatal care while pregnant. When the baby was born, she spent two months in the NICU.
C told detectives she was scared and annoyed that the baby was going home early and she was underprepared.
The report states that C and her husband have three children together, and she claimed her husband does not help with care.
LCSO said in September, deputies responded to an apartment in Lehigh Acres for a four-month-old baby who began choking and unresponsive.
According to the report, C did not react when EMTs tried to save the baby’s life.
Deputies said the infant was rushed to the hospital where medical staff pronounced the baby dead.
Preliminary examinations of the baby revealed “cruel injuries,” according to LCSO.
Injuries reportedly included a broken femur, multiple broken ribs, large areas of bruising and severe abdominal bloating.
The medical examiner’s office determined the cause of death to be abusive head trauma, and the manner of the death was ruled a homicide.
Detectives served multiple search warrant on the apartment and C’s electronics.
LCSO said a review of C’s phone revealed serval “concerning internet searches and text messages.”
The release states that searches included “How long do you have to make a police report?’ and “How to sign away parental rights?”.
C also reportedly texted the witnesses eluding to wanting the child dead and shaking the infant.
The police report states that a few weeks prior to the incident, C said the baby choked on formula and lost consciousness. C said she performed CPR, but did not call 9-1-1.
“This case is cruel and this infant endured deadly abuse from it’s mother her entire life. My heart breaks for this child, but my detectives dedicated themselves to brining her justice by digging for evidence and making an arrest.” said Sheriff C M. “I know my detectives will continue to work with the State Attorney’s Office to secure a conviction.”
C is currently booked at the Lee County Jail.
