A 31-year-old man is accused of dangling a child from the second-floor balcony of a Daytona Beach resort and dropping him, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.
Officers responded to Sandlewood Resort in Daytona Beach around 8 p.m. on Saturday.
According to an arrest affidavit, Brandon Gilmore, 31, told the child’s mother, who he had met hours earlier at the resort pool, that he was going to play with the child outside to “scare him a little bit.”
Gilmore then held the child by both of his legs over the balcony, the affidavit said, before dropping him.
A witness told police she saw a man drop a child from the balcony head-first, the affidavit shows. Police obtained surveillance video that showed Gilmore dropping the child, according to investigators.
The child had blunt force trauma to his head due to the drop, police said.
The Department of Children and Families was notified.
Gilmore faces a charge of aggravated child abuse.
