Man accused of threatening pickleball players with machete in North Naples

A man is accused of threatening a group of pickleball players with a machete at a North Naples community center late Saturday night.

A call was received about a man threatening people at the courts shortly before midnight at the Pelican Marsh Community Center. Deputies say the man had a strong odor of alcohol.

According to the report, the victims and witnesses say Joseph Devalle, 54, aggressively approached the courts, yelling at them to leave while kicking and pushing chairs.

Devalle then reportedly returned to his vehicle and grabbed a machete before threatening the victims, saying he would “beat their a**”.

Devalle told deputies he felt threatened by the victims after they told him to ‘”make them leave,” so he grabbed the machete, being the “macho man that he is,” in an attempt to make them leave.

Deputies arrested Devalle and charged him with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intention to kill.
