Lee County deputies arrested a man for breaking into a Lehigh Acres home and barricading himself inside.
The victim told police their family was in the pool when Jose Barbosa, 42, entered the home. Deputies say Barbosa approached one of the children and touched their face before going back inside.
The family was able to climb a fence to a neighbor’s home.
Initial responding deputies began commanding Barbosa, and while approaching the home they said they heard multiple shots coming from behind the residence.
Deputies reportedly established a perimeter around the residence with multiple deputies, along with a chopper, drone and K9 units.
Barbosa exited the residence but reportedly refused further commands before deputies used a less-lethal shotgun to get him into custody.
Detectives say while Barbosa was inside the residence, he drank two beers and ate a bag of chips.
Barbosa was arrested for burglary, battery and petit theft. Barbosa reportedly has a lengthy criminal history, including multiple battery and burglary charges.
“This is a frightening situation for any family. I’m proud of my deputy’s quick response to secure the scene. This violent criminal is no stranger to the Marceno Motel and I hope this cell feels like home,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said.
