A road rage incident that began on U.S.-41 near Galway Lane on Friday escalated into a dangerous confrontation, leading to the arrest of a Port Charlotte man.
According to Charlotte County deputies, the altercation started when two drivers got into an argument over erratic driving behaviors, with both accusing each other of honking, driving aggressively, and flipping each other off.
Instead of defusing the situation, the victim followed the other driver, identified as D F, all the way to his home on New York Avenue in Port Charlotte.
As the victim passed F’s driveway, deputies reported that F threw a nightstick at the victim’s car, causing over $1,000 in damage.
Thinking the confrontation had ended, the victim drove away, but the situation quickly escalated further. Deputies say F’s friend began chasing the victim around the neighborhood before calling 911.
The victim flagged down a deputy, leading them back to F’s house. At that point, deputies say F pulled out a hammer and raised it at the victim, heightening the already tense situation.
F was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County Jail on charges of criminal mischief.
