A man from Stuart was arrested after allegedly threatening another man with a box cutter during a dispute over a debt, according to police.
On December 21 at around 11:30 a.m., the victim reported to the Stuart Police Department (SPD) that B R, known to him only as “B,” had been harassing him over a debt R claimed was owed. The victim denied owing any money.
The victim said the incident occurred earlier that day at his cousin’s apartment on SE 6th Street. While assisting his cousin’s husband, the victim was confronted by R, who demanded payment, according to the arrest report. The situation escalated when R allegedly attempted to punch the victim and then brandished a yellow box cutter. Fearing for his safety, the victim pretended to reach for a weapon, prompting R to back away while making further threats saying, “Imma get you. Imma get you.”
Witnesses corroborated the victim’s account, according to the SPD. The victim’s cousin’s husband told police that R had previously demanded money at their apartment and had been told not to return. J described the incident, stating R grabbed the victim and asked about the money before pulling out the box cutter. Another witness saw the altercation and described R, known to her as “Chicken George,” as having an “instrument” in his hand.
Police located R at his residence on SE Forrest Park Drive, where they found a gray Dodge Ram matching the victim’s description. Officers said a box cutter that matched witness descriptions was found in R’s Dodge Ram.
During the arrest, R admitted to loaning the victim $300 four months prior but denied any intent to harm him, telling police he just wanted his money. Officers also reported smelling burnt marijuana in R’s Dodge Ram and found his expired medical marijuana card.
R was arrested and booked into the Martin County Jail for aggravated assault and battery on a person over 65, but was released on a $10,000 bond, according to court records.
